Sticky Fingers (Rolling Stones 1971)
Andy Warhol
Inspiration piece for Wendi Gueorguiev in the
Under the Influence show, Fall 2016

"My work is primarily inspired by the experience of life as a woman, the charged and nebulous relationship between subject and object, and the formal and sensual qualities of the materials. Desire and its myriad of expressions, is perhaps, at the end of the day, my deepest interest.

The Rolling Stone Sticky Fingers album cover art, designed by Andy Warhol, is all about desire and has inspired several of my pieces.

Its imagery and elaborate construction, embodying Mick Jagger's wish to have a real working zipper on a cover, acknowledges and embraces how record albums essentially act as a fetish objects. The object, imbued with longing, fantasy, and personal, even sexual significance, is a psychological bridge that symbolically mediates the relationship between the artists and the fans' desire to connect and possess.

I became intrigued with zippers themselves as they also intimately mediate the relationship of our bodies and selves with others and the environment."
