Tree Skins (Decomposed, Invaded) Linda Brooks Hirschman fiber, mixed media, 50" x 13" x 8"; $750 each Exhibited at Village West in Wherefore Art |
Under an oak, whose boughs were mossed with age
And high top bald with dry antiquity,
A wretched, ragged man, o'ergrown with hair
Lay sleeping on his back.
-- As You Like It, Act IV, Scene 2
"In the series Tree Skins, I portray aging trees. As if displayed in a tree museum, strips of peeled bark hang from steel nails like animal hides. Showing trees struck by disease, weather, invasive plants, insects and normal aging, I acknowledge the unpredictable and predictable aspects of later years. The work in this series feeds my curiosity about this stage of life."
