Sleeping on the Street #3 Larry McKim acrylic on canvas, 28" x 60"; $3000 Exhibited at Village West in Ancien Régime: the pre-revolutionary world Fall 2018 |
"This is a Social Realistic approach to representing homeless people.
I'm sensitive to preserving the identities of individuals so either represent them from behind or generalize facial features.
I install these paintings free-standing on the floor so that the viewer has to encounter them as they would encounter an actual person sleeping on the street. The discomfort of the encounter has to balance the attraction of viewing a painted representation.
