Estuary with Fishing Spears
Katrina Slavik
acrylic with cut paper on panel, 24" x 18";  $850
Exhibited at Village West in Ancien Régime: the pre-revolutionary world Fall 2018

"This piece reimagines the New York waterfront from a fish's eye view, including a man-made wall, which has become repurposed into habitats for river plants and oysters.

Collaged paper cutouts represent the displacement of the majority of species that once lived in the area.

The city skyline is collaged as well. These current architectural developments are compared to ancient fishing instruments from a time when people coexisted with their environment."
